Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. Discuss Wakanda's Impact on The MCU

If you haven’t seen Black Panther yet, be warned that there are minor spoilers ahead.

At the end of Black Panther, T’Challa makes the decision to reveal the true identity of Wakanda and open it up for trade and to be an international power. What impact will this have on the MCU? What do the Avengers think of this? We won’t know anything for certain until Avengers: Infinity War at the earliest. However, Robert Downey Jr and Tom Holland have talked about how they think their characters will react to this amazing country.

Downey said in a recent interview:

Well, a technologically advanced country is probably something that he wishes would benefit humanity without creating more infighting. I think that’s what he would hope for America. That’s what he would hope for the world. I think to him, he would view it as a potentially utopian model.

I think Downey’s right. I think Tony could see this as what he tried to accomplish with Ultron, but better. Unfortunately, we don’t know if Iron Man will make it to Wakanda or not. Fans are trying to figure out who will live, die, and be resurrected in Infinity War and Iron Man is on the list of potential deaths for many fans (myself included). Spider-Man I think is safe though, at least from the first half of Infinity War since we know that we are getting a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. So how does Holland think Peter Parker will react?

I think Peter would love it. There’s some great moments in the comics where Peter ends up there. And Letitia and I have become really good friends over the last year and a bit. It would be brilliant to have our characters meet up, it would be so funny. She’s brilliant in the movie, she’s actually my favorite part of Black Panther.

I could definitely see Peter being like a kid in a candy shop when/if he arrives at Wakanda. It seems like something he would really be in to. It is possible that Peter won’t make it to Wakanda during Infinity War, but that doesn’t mean he won’t ever get there. After all, Kevin Feige has promised that Wakanda will act as an “anchor point” for Phase 4.
