Tom Holland And Timothee Chalamet Are Reportedly Wanted To Play Willy Wonka in WONKA
Yesterday we learned that Warner Bros. was moving forward with their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory spinoff film, Wonka. They’ve been working on developing this project for years and now they are hoping to start shooting it within the next four months.
Harry Potter producer David Heyman is set to produce the film, and the script is coming from Simon Rich (An American Pickle). Paul King, who directed Paddington and its sequel, is still attached to helm the movie.
The upcoming adaptation will center on “Willy Wonka’s earlier days prior to operating his elaborate house of confectionary creations.” It’s an origin story of sorts, and it was also previously reported that it will tell the story of how young Willy Wonka “met the now iconic Oompa-Loompas on one of his earlier adventures."
A few years ago it was reported that Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049), Ezra Miller (The Flash), and Donald Glover (Solo) were all up for the role of Wonka. Now we are learning from Collider that the studio is looking at casting Tom Holland (Spider-Man) or Timothee Chalamet (Dune).
While these are both great actors, I don’t see either one of them taking on the role of Willy Wonka at all. Whoever is cast in the film is going to be compared to the great Gene Wilder and I just don’t see either one of them bringing that kind of greatness to the role. I don’t know, maybe Chalamet could pull it off.
They’ve even set a release date for March 17th, 2023. Who do you think who be awesome in the role of Wonka? Who do you think could capture the same talent and energy as Wilder did?
