Tom Holland Compares His Spider-Man to Marty McFly and Teases a Bigger Role in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Seeing Tom Holland's Spider-Man in action for the first time was probably one of the best parts of Captain America: Civil War and like many of you, Spider-Man: Homecoming is one of the films I'm looking most forward to this year. We also know that he'll play a part in Avengers: Infinity War, and according to Tom Holland, we might be seeing a lot more of him than we think.

In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Holland chatted about how much Spider-Man actually has to do in the new Avengers movie, and it seems like quite a bit.

"It's been crazy, man. It's been a really, really surreal experience. When I did Civil War, I only worked with Chris and Robert very briefly. Everyone else was sort of like, I was acting with a tennis ball or all this sort of stuff. I saw everyone, but I never got to work with them. For this now, I'm in a situation where I'm on set with all these guys doing scenes, fighting bad guys. It's been a real whirlwind. It's been a lot of fun."

It makes me so glad to hear that Spider-Man is getting a larger role. He's been one of my favorite heroes since I was a child, and I haven't felt like he's been fully done justice yet. But, it looks like Homecoming director Jon Watts has made some great choices with the character. Holland goes on to talk about how the director asked the actors to watch some classic 80's movies for inspiration:

"I think that was one of the things that Jon set out to do and its just a reflection on him, as a director, that's he's getting this kind of response from it. He gave us a load of videos, old movies, to watch before starting shooting: Pretty in Pink, Back to the Future, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. My goal was to try and kind of be our generation's Marty McFly. That was what my all-time goal was, and I was actually lucky enough that a journalist said, 'Oh, you're kind of like Marty McFly in this movie."

MARTY MCFLY! This movie has just raised my intrigue even higher. Marty was a personal favorite character for me when I was growing up and I always viewed him and Spider-Man as similar characters. I just thought that was so cool to hear. Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man is more than just a Superhero. He's a kid learning how to live and navigate through life. Marvel has been making some great choices with how they are bringing their characters to life in the MCU. Now they just need to get rights back to all the other characters, and the world can be made right again.
