Tom Holland Confirms Marvel is Planning a SPIDER-MAN Trilogy
We already knew that after Spider-Man: Homecoming there was going to be a sequel because a release date was set for it. That Spider-Man sequel is set to be released on July 5th, 2019. It was unsure what Marvel and Sony's plans were after that, but in a recent interview with AlloCiné, Tom Holland confirmed that there will be a third film. He explained:
“Yes, there is what we call the arc of the character. There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man, especially, to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and… go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies.”
The actor was then asked to clarify if he was just talking about the solo films and he replied:
“There will be a Spider-Man 2 and 3… Yeah, well now you know, sorry Marvel. Whoops!”
So, the cats out of the bag! I know the news isn't really that surprising, but now you won't be wondering if there's going to be a third film in the franchise anymore.
Holland has previously talked about his ambitious hopes for Spider-Man and how he wants to play the character over the next 15 years or so. I guess starting off with a story arc over the course of a trilogy is a good way to start. I can't help but think we'll see more than just three solo Spider-Man films, though. We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.
It all starts with Spider-Man: Homecoming which swings into theaters on July 7th.
