Tom Holland Pitched a Young James Bond Movie to Sony and That Led to UNCHARTED

Tom Holland is fantastic as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and he is also great in films such as Cherry and Devil All The Time. The guy is a talented young actor with the parts that suit him. He’s now starring in Uncharted as Nathan Drake, which is a character that he doesn’t fit at all. And it turns out that whole thing came out of a pitch for another film to play another character that he doesn’t fit, James Bond.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Holland revealed that he pitched a Young James Bond origin film to Sony Pictures, and while that pitch failed, it led to Uncharted. He said:

“I had a meeting, after or during Spider-Man 2 [Far From Home], with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with. It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate were particularly interested.

“The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games. And that opened a conversation.”

Luckily, the powers that be understood that Holland as a young James Bond didn’t make sense. I just kinda wish the executives at Sony would have realized the same thing about him playing Nathan Drake. It would have made more sense to build a whole new original concept around Holland, a character that could have been built exclusively for him. With Nathan Drake, it’s like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
