Tom Holland Rumored to Be in Talks to Join VENOM 2 as Spider-Man

I knew it wouldn’t be long before the rumors regarding Spider-Man joining the Venom sequel would start! It was bound to happen, and the first report comes from Geek World Wide. They are reporting that Tom Holland is currently in talks to join Venom 2 and that he might appear in it as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

The outlet says the news comes from a casting breakdown for the film. The site goes on to say “keep in mind that negotiations are still going on and it is possible a deal may not be made. Therefore, there is a chance that Holland does not end up in the movie.”

While I think a crossover will eventually happen, I don’t think it’ll come until after Marvel and Sony wrap up their Spider-Man sharing deal. That includes Spider-Man 3, and he’s supposed to make an appearance in one other Spider-Man movie. After that, he’s fully back at Sony. While he’s in the MCU, though, I don’t think that Venom appearance will happen. I’ll be surprised if it does.

The report goes on to point out two factors to consider, “the first being the fact that it is unclear what version of Spider-Man would appear in this film. While it could be the Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who is played by Holland, it could also be an alternate Peter Parker entirely (who just happens to be Tom Holland). Since Marvel Studios is not producing this movie, it is quite possible this Spider-Man in ‘Venom 2’ has nothing to do with the MCU.”

I guess they could do that to totally confuse audiences. If they did include Spider-Man, it would have to be a version of the character from an alternate universe. “The second factor is contingent on the first. So, if the MCU’s Spider-Man appears in Venom 2, does that make the first and second Venom films canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? This is also unclear, but at the same time unlikely given what we do know.”

And that’s why the MCU version of Spider-Man won’t appear in Venom 2. The Venom films are not a part of the MCU, doing that would be a ridiculous move because it has nothing to do with those films. Marvel Studios Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige did previously tease that Spider-Man does have the power to cross cinematic universes. He explained:

“Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

So, if Spider-Man does show up in Venom 2, it’ll be really interesting to see how that will play out. If Holland does join the film, he will join Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady/Carnage. Naomie Harris will also play Shriek in the film, the sonic-powered accomplice and romantic interest of Carnage, and Stephen Graham is also in the movie.

Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle) will be directing, and it will be released on October 2nd, 2020.

Do you think we’ll see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Venom 2? If so, how do you think they’ll incorporate him into the story?
