Tom Holland Shares How He Describes His UNCHARTED Movie
Tom Holland’s upcoming Uncharted film has completed shooting and is currently in the post-production process under the direction of Ruben Fleischer (Venom).
Tom Holland takes on the role of young Nathan Drake while Mark Wahlberg is taking on the role of his mentor Sully. Holland recently appeared on the Little Gold Men podcast, where the show's host was unfamiliar with the Uncharted video games. So, the actor came up with a simple way to explain who Nathan Drake is and the kind of film it will be, saying:
I think the easiest way to describe the film without belittling it in any way is like if Indiana Jones and James Bond had had a baby, it would be Nathan Drake. That is the way I keep describing the film.
With someone who’s not familiar with the Uncharted franchise, it’d be funny if his response was, “who are Indiana Jones and James Bond?” With Holland previously admitting he’s never seen The Empire Strikes Back, it makes me wonder if he’s even ever seen any Indiana Jones or older James Bond films!
Regardless, I would love nothing more than for this film to be good, but I’m not buying into the direction they are taking it. The movie is set to tell the story of a young Nathan Drake before he becomes the badass treasure hunter from the game. Nathan Drake is known for his adventures across the world as he uncovers various historical mysteries. Sully is his mentor.
When previously talking about the film, Holland said that it is one of the best scripts he’s ever read:
“I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don't is that it's an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven't seen what's going to happen in the film. And if you haven't played the games, you're going to enjoy the film because it's information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I'm super excited to make that movie and it's been a long time coming.
“I read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and it's one of the best scripts I've ever read. It really, really jumps off the page.”
Art Marcum and Matt Holloway wrote the most recent draft of the script. The film also stars Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, and The 100 actor Tati Gabrielle. The Uncharted movie hits theaters on July 16th, 2021.
