Tom Holland Talks About Trusting the Process in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY While Acting Opposite Mark Ruffalo Holding a Hulk Hand
We all know the amount of editing, CGI and general movie magic that has to go into a Marvel movie to make it come to life in the way we’ve become accustomed to.
There’s a whole lot of work that happens on the back end after a film is shot with actors on set, and sometimes the hardest part for those actors is to see the vision of the filmmakers while pretending that everything looks the way it will in the finished product.
In a virtual press conference to promote Spider-Man: Brand New Day, CinemaBlend reports that the film’s star, Tom Holland, described a scene in the film in which he was acting opposite Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo and he really had to make believe he could see the final shot.
Holland explained: “It's a really peculiar experience because the moment you like, step outside the bubble and you -- If there was a mirror on set and you could see what you were doing, it really requires full commitment.
“And I remember me standing on an apple box and Mark would be holding this gigantic Hulk hand and I'm pretending that it's choking me and then he's doing the voice and he's so good at the voice.
“And there were real moments where I was like, ‘I just have to trust the process.’ …. ‘This is great, this is gonna be really cool.’ And I'm like, ‘Oh no.’”
It’s always funny to see shots of the motion capture suits actors have to wear on set, or see them talking to tennis balls to remember where their mark is, and know that they just have to envision what has been described to them.
It’s pretty amazing when you think of these giant movies and how they get made in such humble ways.
