Tom Holland Teams Up With Drew Pearce for Sony's New Thriller PENTHOUSE
Tom Holland is sticking with Sony Pictures for another big project, but this time he's trading superhero action for something a little different. The Spider-Man star is teaming up with Drew Pearce, the writer behind Iron Man 3 and The Fall Guy, for a new thriller titled Penthouse.
Sony Pictures has secured the original project in a preemptive deal, with Holland being lined up to star. His production company, Billy17, will produce alongside Pearce's Point of No Return.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, so we don’t know what kind of trouble Holland might find himself in. What we do know is that Pearce is writing the screenplay, and Holland will be heavily involved in developing the film.
Pearce has plenty of experience with action and suspense, having worked on Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and Hotel Artemis, the latter of which he also directed. He's also attached to The Thomas Crown Affair, so it'll be interesting to see what he comes up with for Holland.
The project continues Holland's successful partnership with Sony following the massive box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has earned more than $2 billion worldwide. Billy17 already has a producing deal with Sony, and Penthouse gives Holland another opportunity to expand his work with the studio beyond the Marvel franchise.
He's also set to star in Sony's upcoming Fred Astaire biopic alongside Margaret Qualley, Sabrina Carpenter, and Talia Ryder. Holland and Billy17 are producing that film as well.
There isn't a release date or director attached to Penthouse yet, but Holland and Pearce make an interesting combination. Pearce knows how to put together an entertaining thriller, and seeing Holland take on something outside his usual blockbuster roles could be a lot of fun.
