Tom Holland Tried So Hard Not to Look Like a Child Next to Mark Wahlberg in UNCHARTED
I like Tom Holland! He’s a talented young actor who has had a chance to play some great roles. Regardless of how much I like Holland, I just can’t buy him in the role of Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie, even as a young version of the character because I don’t see him ever growing into it.
I think of Holland as Drake in the same way I saw Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Cruise was no Jack Reacher. Holland really did put in the effort to try and bulk up for the role, though. Holland didn’t want to look like a child next to Mark Wahlberg, who is playing Sully.
In a recent interview with Total Film, Holland shared, "When we went to set for the first time, I saw Mark Wahlberg [who plays mentor figure Sully], and Mark is massive. He is a unit.”
The actor went on to say, "I was in good shape, but I wasn’t by any means big. We went home for five months, all I did was eat and train, eat and train, eat and train – to put a bit of timber on, to make me look not like a child next to Mark."
Well, he still kinda looks like a child next to Wahlberg. Hell, I’m in shape and I’m a lot older than Holland, and I’d probably look like a child next to Wahlberg as well! Holland went on to say, "I’m always looking for a challenge. I’m looking for something I haven’t done before. I’m now using my job as an excuse to travel, and see the world, and meet amazing people. In a similar way to Nathan Drake, I really just like adventure."
The movie comes from director Ruben Fleischer (Venom), and the synopsis reads:
Based on one of the best-selling, most critically acclaimed video game series of all time, Uncharted introduces audiences to the young street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and showcases his first treasure hunting adventure with wisecracking partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). In an action-adventure epic that spans the globe, the two go in dangerous pursuit of “the greatest treasure never found” while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.
Art Marcum and Matt Holloway wrote the most recent draft of the script. The film also stars Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, and The 100 actor Tati Gabrielle. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
The Uncharted movie hits theaters on February 18th, 2022.
