Tom Welling Confirmed To Reprise His Role as Clark Kent in The CW's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" Crossover Event

Holy shit! Tom Welling is actually going to be reprising his Smallville role as Clark Kent in the CW’s upcoming DC Arrowverse crossover event series "Crisis on Infinite Earths"! He previously teased his possible involvement with the crossover, but I didn’t really think anything would come of it. Well, it’s happening and I’m pretty freakin’ stoked!

The Arrowverse producers wanted to bring in multiple versions of the Superman in the series, and over the summer they started closing the deals. Tyler Hoechlin will be reprising his role and Brandon Routh will be playing the Kingdom Come version of the character. So, Welling is in good company.

I’m actually surprised that the producers managed to get Welling back in the role because, as you know, he’s been reluctant to revisit the character that he wonderfully played on the original Smallville series.

According to Deadline, the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover will reveal what happened to the character almost ten years after the events on Smallville. Arrow co-creator/executive producer Marc Guggenheim addressed the significance of the casting, saying:

“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”

There’s no word on if Welling will actually suit up as Superman in the event series, but even if he doesn’t, it’s still exciting to know that he’s coming back to play Kent again after all these years!

The crossover will unite the entire Arrowverse series franchise – Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman. It’s a five-episode epic that will span two quarters, with three episodes airing in December and the two concluding installments debuting in January.

Are you excited and happy to hear that Welling will be back in the role of Clark Kent!?
