Tom Welling Offers an Update on His Animated SMALLVILLE Sequel Project
Last year, Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum confirmed that they were developing an animated Smallville sequel project. He revealed at the time, “Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life and use as many of the original cast members as possible. Don't tell anybody though, it's a secret, we're still working on it."
During a recent panel at Fan Expo Vancouver, Willing offered an update on the project, which has yet to be given and official greenlight. But, it’s definitely starting to take shape with the cast and animation style. He said:
"We're working on animated series that picks up right after our Smallville [finale] and...telling our own story. Our vision is that we get Erica. It might be tough to get Allison. But even Sam Jones III [who played Pete Ross] and Lionel Luthor is going to be a big part of that. John Glover wants to do it, we've already been into this. We've already gotten animation, we just don't have the stories yet because Al and Miles are busy doing Tim Burton-like movies. As soon as they are done with that, we're going to do this. I want to be Clark's voice, I want Erica to be Lois's voice. That's going to be the fun of it. I think there's a story that Al and Miles are going to tell that's individual and new and call it a multiverse thing. But let's see where it goes, and it'll be fun, so yeah."
As for his comment about Allison Mack being hard to get, as you know she was sentenced to three years in prison and three years probation in June of 2021. She was the second in command of that sex cult, NXIVM, which was run by Keith Raniere, who is currently serving a 120-year prison term for sex trafficking.
Anyway, it’s pretty cool to hear that this project is taking shape! I hope that one day it does get the official greenlight because I’d love to see the series continue in animated form! That would be awesome.
