TOMB RAIDER Star Alicia Vikander Hopes To Start Shooting The Sequel Next Year

I actually really enjoyed Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider film. It told an incredibly fun adventure story and I was stoked to learn that we would be getting a sequel.

The last we heard, Ben Wheatley is set to direct that sequel and he’s best known for his crazy films such as Kill List, A Field in England, Sightseers, High Rise, and Free Fire. The script is being written by Amy Jump, who worked on all of Wheatley’s other films.

With the pandemic, I assumed that the production of the film was pushed back, and Vikander confirms that in a recent interview with Good Morning America, via Entertainment Weekly. She also says that the hope is to start shooting next year.

“The plan was for us to start making one this year, of course, due to the [pandemic] situation, that’s now very different. We’re still in discussions about it, so I hope we can probably get to it next year.”

The release date was originally set for March 19, 2021, but I’m sure that’s been pushed back as well. I’m happy that the studio and talent still plan on pursuing the sequel and I’m excited to see what Wheatley ends up doing with it. With him at the helm, I can’t help but think it’s going to be a crazy and wild adventure film.
