TOP GUN 2 Has a Release Date and Director Confirmed

Are you ready to get back on the Highway to the Danger Zone? Today, Paramount announced that the Top Gun sequel will jet into theaters on July 12, 2019. But that's not all, there's more.

EW reports that the studio also announced that Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) will officially direct the film. This won't be the first time that Tom Cruise and Kosinski have collaborated, they worked together on 2013's Oblivion.

Just a few weeks ago, Cruise announced that he didn’t want the new film to have a number in the title, so the movie will be called Top Gun: Maverick, after his character’s code name.

Cruise recently told Access Hollywood. “We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one … but a progression for Maverick.”
