Paramount Pictures has announced that they’ve pushed back the release date for Top Gun: Maverick and A Quiet Place Part II to 2021. I really don’t want to have to wait until 2021 to watch these movies, but it’s not like we have a choice.

Top Gun: Maverick has been pushed from December 23rd, 2020 to July 2nd, 2021.

The film is being directed by Joseph Kosinski, and it has Tom Cruise reprising his role from the original film, and he will be joined by Miles Teller as Goose's son, Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, and Lewis Pullman. Here’s the synopsis that was previously released:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”

Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

A Quiet Place Part II has been moved from September 4th, 2020 to to April 23rd, 2021.

The movie was directed by John Krasinski, and it stars Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Djimon Hounsou, and Cillian Murphy. This is the synopsis that was shared:

Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

Paramount has also shuffled around a few other dates. Jackass 4 has been pushed from July 2021 to September 3rd, 2021. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will open on April 8th, 2022. Under the Boardwalk has been added to the calendar on July 22, 2022, and The Tiger’s Apprentice was moved back a year from February 11th, 2022 to February 10th, 2023.

Paramount’s president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson and president of international theatrical distribution Mark Viane said in a joint statement:

“We truly believe that there is no movie-viewing experience like the one enjoyed in theatres. We are committed to the theatrical experience and our exhibition partners, and want to stress that we are confident that, when the time comes, audiences everywhere will once again enjoy the singular joy of seeing Paramount films on the big screen.”

Is that why they keep selling off their other films to Netflix and Amazon? At least Top Gun: Maverick and A Quiet Place Part II will eventually hit theaters.
