TOP GUN: MAVERICK Featurette Focuses on Badass Pilot Training the Actors Had to Go Through
I’ve got an awesome new featurette for you to watch today for Top Gun: Maverick, and it takes fans behind the scenes of the intense flight training that the actors had to go through in preparation for the film. The training looks completely badass and as someone who had a dream of being a pilot at one point, going through something like this would be an incredible experience. When I see stuff like this, I am hit with a little regret that I didn’t join the Navy to become a pilot.
The featurette features a ton of cool behind the scenes footage, and it also offers up some actual new footage from footage that was shot for the film. This movie looks like it’s going to be so damn great!
Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise, who is reprising his role from the original film, and he will be joined by Miles Teller as Goose's son, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer, and Lewis Pullman.
Cruise actually developed a whole training program for the actors to go through in preparation to shoot the film. Cruise explained that they needed the "commitment to shoot the actors practically, inside the Boeing F/A-18 Superhornet jets." He went on to say: “It was every step of the way. I had to teach them how to fly. I had to teach them how to handle gs. I had to get them confident in the aeroplane."
Co-star Miles Teller previously talked about Cruise’s bootcamp for them, saying, "We were all mini Toms making this movie. He put us through... I’ll just call it a 'Tom Cruise boot camp'. We were getting in killer shape. And also for the stunts and stuff that Tom does in movies, it’s usually a very specific type of training. You’re not just going into the gym and lifting some weights. We did flight training for three months before we started filming... We got put through the wringer."
Here’s a new synopsis that was shared:
After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of TOPGUN graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”
The movie will be released on May 27th, 2022. Now, watch the new featurette!
