TOP GUN: MAVERICK Premieres on Paramount+ to Record-Breaking Viewership Numbers

Top Gun: Maverick was the most exciting and successful movie of the year, bringing more action fans back to the theaters than we’d seen since 2019, pre-pandemic. Fans went to the theatre, and even went back again to enjoy this movie, so it’s no surprise that the film’s recent release on Paramount+ was a gargantuan hit!

The movie debuted on the streamer on December 22nd, and quickly became the most-watched film to ever debut on the streaming service domestically. It quickly surpassed Sonic the Hedgehog’s previous premiere weekend viewership record by 60%, although Paramount has not yet disclosed the exact numbers pulled in.

Deadline reports that in anticipation of Maverick‘s debut on the service, audiences refreshed their memories on the original Top Gun movie, which saw viewership increase by about 400%. It was apparently a Tom Cruise-inspired weekend, as even the Mission Impossible franchise saw a 140% bump in viewership.

Top Gun: Maverick has crossed the $1.4B mark worldwide, making it one of the top-grossing films of all time.
