TOP GUN: MAVERICK Surpasses $1 Billion Mark Making It the Highest Grossing Film of the Year Globally
Top Gun: Maverick is still soaring in the box office, having just surpassed the $1 billion mark. This makes it the highest grossing movie of the year so far globally, taking the spot of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s the first movie of the year and only the second in COVID times (following Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home with $1.9 billion) to reach that benchmark, and it did it without the help of China or Russia, which are two major markets.
After only 31 days in theaters, the sequel became Tom Cruise’s first movie to surpass $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Over the holiday weekend, the film earned $160.5 million, also making it the first movie in Cruise’s 40-year career to surpass $100 million in a single weekend.
It really was a stellar movie, and I know fans really enjoyed it. Much of the film’s revenue and staying power in the theater is thanks to fans returning to see the movie more than once, and fans buying tickets to see the larger than life movie on IMAX screens.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, Top Gun: Maverick is still in theaters, and it’s definitely worth seeing on the big screen!
