A trailer and poster have been released for the mermaid adventure film The King’s Daughter. The main cast features Pierce Brosnan, Kaya Scodelario, Benjamin Walker, Rachel Griffiths, and William Hurt, with Fan Bingbing as the mermaid. The story is narrated by Julie Andrews. The King's Daughter is directed by Sean McNamara (The Legend of Galgameth, P.U.N.K.S., Race to Space) from a screenplay by Barry Berman and James Schamus, adapted from Vonda N. McIntyre's novel The Moon and the Sun.

Here’s the full synopsis:

King Louis XIV's (Brosnan) quest for immortality leads him to capture a mermaid's (Fan) life force, but his immovable will is challenged when his long-hidden illegitimate daughter (Scodelario) forms a bond with the magical creature.

This is going to be a tough one to pull off. It’s hard to make a movie about a mermaid and have it taken seriously. The Little Mermaid and Splash are pretty much the only ones who’ve done it right. But maybe it will turn out to be a good movie for the family. Check out the trailer and poster below, and watch The King’s Daughter in theatres on January 21st.
