Trailer For a GALAXY QUEST Documentary Called NEVER SURRENDER Explores The Film and How It Became a Fan Favorite
When Galaxy Quest was released in 1999, I rushed to the theater to see it and was blown away by how great of a film it was. It ended up being so much better than I thought it would be, but the movie completely bombed at the box office.
It wasn’t until after the movie was released for Home Entertainment that people started to discover the film and it started to grow its fan base. I can watch this movie over and over again and it never gets old. Now, nearly 20 years since it was released, the film has a huge fanbase! We have a trailer for an upcoming documentary called Never Surrender that dives into the film and explores the making of it and how it ended up being a fan favorite.
By all accounts, it was a movie that beat all odds: Surviving a set fire, the loss of a powerful director, and a studio that didn’t understand what it had, Galaxy Quest turned into a pop-culture phenomenon that would "never give up, never surrender." As the cult classic nears its 20th anniversary – premiering on December 25th, 1999 – Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary explores how the science-fiction comedy became an enduring fan favorite, a movie that helped launch the sci-fi- and fantasy-driven movie and TV industry that dominates global entertainment today.
The doc features the stars and creators of Galaxy Quest, as well as a host of pop-culture commentators, reflecting on the greatness of this film. Some of the people appearing in the doc include Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell, Justin Long, Tony Shalhoub, Rainn Wilson, Enrico Colantoni, Missi Pyle, Daryl "Chill" Mitchell, director Dean Parisot, Wil Wheaton and Brent Spiner.
As a fan of Galaxy Quest, I can’t wait to watch this. I’m sure the doc will be filled with lots of insight and behind-the-scenes stories that we’ve never heard before. Some of that is teased in this trailer. It sounds like there was a good amount of drama surrounding the movie.
The film was produced by Roth Cornet and it premiered at the New York Comic-Con. Fathom Events will premiere the Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary at a special one-night-only event - for more info visit the Fathom website.
