Trailer For a Ridiculous New COP AND A HALF Movie Starring Lou Diamond Phillips
Do you remember the silly 1993 Burt Reynolds family comedy Cop and a Half? Well, for some reason, Universal Pictures decided to reboot it with a film called Cop and a Half: New Recruit and it comes out later this week. The film stars Lou Diamond Phillips and Lulu Wilson (Ouija: Origin of Evil and Annabelle: Creation) and it follows that generic formula of a hardass grumpy detective who for seems reason teams up with an annoying and ambitious little kid to solve a case. The movie looks ridiculous.
Grizzled veteran detective Mark Simmons (Lou Diamond Phillips) can’t seem to catch the “Badge Bandit” – the city’s serial prankster who’s causing mischief and embarrassing the police. Karina Foley (Lulu Wilson) is a spunky 12-year-old who dreams of being a cop. She stumbles on Simmons’ stakeout where she proves she’s got serious detective skills and tech-savvy smarts. While Simmons wants to ignore Karina, the police captain does the unthinkable and teams them up. While on their mission to stop the “Badge Bandit,” the unlikely duo goes on a hilarious, action-filled adventure!
The trailer has been around since May, but I didn't even notice it until /Film shared the trailer. It's not like anyone really had a reason to be looking out for this movie! I don't imagine a lot of people remember the original film. It's not like it was a classic memorable movie.
Cop and a Half: New Recruit will be released on August 1st.
