Teaser Trailer for Andrew Garfield's True Crime Murder Thriller Series UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN

FX has released the first treaser trailer for Andrew Garfield’s upcoming grisly true crime thriller series, Under the Banner of Heaven. This looks like it’s going to be an intense series.

The miniseries is based on the 2003 nonfiction book of the same name from Jon Krakauer. The story focuses on “a double murder committed by Ron and Dan Lafferty, two brothers who killed their sister-in-law Brenda and niece Erica in 1984. The brothers were former members of the School of Prophets, a small fundamentalist Mormon group, and Ron claimed he received visions from God ordering him to commit the murders.”

The synopsis for the series reads:

A devout detective’s faith is tested as he investigates a brutal murder that seems to be connected to an esteemed Utah family’s spiral into LDS fundamentalism and their distrust in the government. Andrew Garfield will star as Pyre, an LDS elder who is committed to his Church and family but begins to question some of the Church's teachings through his contact with a suspected murderer.

Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Brenda, a young faithful Mormon who is the victim of a brutal murder. The trailer sees the detective examining the crime scene, mixed with scenes of certain Mormon ordinances, and life in the small Utah town where the murder took place.

The film was initially set to be adapted into a feature film back in 2011, with Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J Edgar) attached to write. Ron Howard was going to direct the film. Black remains the writer of the series, but Howard is just a producer on it along with Brian Gazer.

Under the Banner of Heaven will premiere in 2022 and it will be released on FX and Hulu.
