Trailer For Awkwafina's Great Upcoming New Film THE FAREWELL
Awkwafina’s latest film project The Farewell made a big splash at Sundance this year. It seems like everyone who saw it loved it and it was one of the more buzzed about films at the film festival.
The film is based on a true story and Awkwafina plays “Chinese-born, U.S.-raised Billi” in the story and she “reluctantly returns to Changchun to find that, although the whole family knows their beloved matriarch, Nai-Nai, has been given mere weeks to live, everyone has decided not to tell Nai Nai herself. To assure her happiness, they gather under the joyful guise of an expedited wedding, uniting family members scattered among new homes abroad.”
In our review for the film, Corrine says “this was a very touching movie” but that it was “heavier than I expected. I listened to this story a couple years ago on NPR and loved how it dealt with family and mortality.”
She went on to say, “all the characters are great. The grandma is adorable, and there’s plenty of awkward humor watching the family navigate planning a big event without revealing the true reason behind their motives. This movie will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.”
The Farewell opens on July 12, 2019.
