Netflix has released the first trailer for the new adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s mystery novel Rebecca. Alfred Hitchcock originally adapted the book in 1940, but it’s been explained that this new film will not be a remake of Hitchock’s film, it will be a whole new imagining of the source material.

Ben Wheatley (Kill ListSightseersHigh-RiseFree Fire) is directing the film and it looks like it’ll be a good psychological thriller! I’ve enjoyed the films that Wheately has made over the course of his career and I’m curious to see what he has done with this story. The movie stars Armie Hammer and Lily James in the lead roles. The synopsis for the film reads:

After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with handsome widower Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer), a newly married young woman (Lily James) arrives at Manderley, her new husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast. Naive and inexperienced, she begins to settle into the trappings of her new life, but finds herself battling the shadow of Maxim’s first wife, the elegant and urbane Rebecca, whose haunting legacy is kept alive by Manderley's sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Kristin Scott Thomas).

The movie also stars Kristin Scott ThomasKeeley HawesAnn DowdSam RileyTom Goodman-HillMark Lewis JonesJohn Hollingworth, and Bill Paterson.

Rebecca will be released in select US theaters and on Netflix on October 21st.
