Trailer for BROTHERS UNDER FIRE Sees Kiefer Sutherland Lead a Familiar, Gritty Action Film

If you’re in the mood for a no-frills action thriller, there’s a new one heading your way this spring. Vertical has released the first trailer for Brothers Under Fire, a VOD-bound military action flick starring Kiefer Sutherland.

It’s arriving in April, and from the looks of it, this one leans hard into the classic “soldiers vs cartel” setup… whether that works for you or not.

The story centers on Captain Jordan Wright, played by Sutherland, who’s supposed to be taking a break from combat. Instead, his squad’s trip to Mexico for a wedding goes sideways fast when a violent cartel crashes the celebration.

What follows is exactly what you’d expect, as Wright scrambles to keep his men alive while everything erupts into chaos.

The official synopsis reads: “Captain Jordan Wright (Kiefer Sutherland) and his squadron are on leave for the wedding of one of their own in Mexico. The celebration is interrupted by a murderous cartel, with tragic consequences. As Jordan leads survivors to safety, war erupts between his squad and the cartel, forcing him into a battle to save his men.”

The film was previously titled Sierra Madre during production, but it’s now landing under its current name with director Justin Chadwick at the helm. Chadwick’s past work includes The Other Boleyn Girl, The First Grader, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and Tulip Fever, so seeing him step into straightforward action territory is a bit of a shift.

The cast around Sutherland includes Omar Chaparro, Laura Osma, Tommy Martinez, Solly McLeod, Orlando Pineda, Laird Akeo, and Ashton Sanders.

This trailer doesn’t do the movie many favors. The action looks pretty basic, mostly made up of standard shootouts without much flair or intensity. It has that straight-to-VOD energy where everything feels functional but not particularly memorable.

Still, if you’re a fan of Sutherland or you just want something quick and action-heavy to throw on at home, this might scratch that itch. Just don’t expect anything groundbreaking.

Brothers Under Fire hits select theaters and VOD on April 17, 2026.
