Trailer for David Ayer's Crime-Thriller THE TAX COLLECTOR With Shia LaBeouf

David Ayer, the director of Suicide Squad, Fury, End of Watch, and the writer of Training Day, has directed a new crime-thriller titled The Tax Collector. If you’re a fan of Ayer and his crime films, which I am, this film is sure to spark some interest.

The filmmaker reunites with Fury actor Shia LaBeouf for the film in a role that’s very different from anything we’ve seen him do before. He takes on the role of a criminal underworld “tax collector,” and he and his partner (Bobby Soto) find themselves caught up in a dangerous situation.

David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf), are ‘tax collectors’ for the crime lord Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs’ illicit dealings. But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles from Mexico, the business is upended, and David finds himself desperate to protect what matters more to him than anything else: his family.

Ayer’s films are hit and miss for some people, he’s also made films such as Harsh TimesStreet Kings, Sabotage, and Bright, all of which I liked more than most people. I just enjoy these kinds of films and Ayer is good at telling these kinds of stories.

When talking about working with LaBeouf, Ayer said, “He’s one of the best actors I’ve worked with, and he’s the most committed to body and soul. He had a tooth pulled on Fury, and then on Tax Collector, he got his whole chest tattooed. So he kind of goes all in, and I’ve never known anyone that committed.”

Damn! He got his whole chest tattooed for the film! Ya gotta love the guy’s dedication to the films he makes. The Tax Collector also stars Cinthya Carmona and George Lopez.

The movie will be released on August 7, 2020.
