Trailer For Director Rob Reiner's Biopic Documentary ALBERT BROOKS: DEFENDING MY LIFE
"To me, genius is – you have the idea, and then the courage to execute it."
HBO has released the first trailer for the Rob Reiner-directed biopic documentary Albert Brooks: Defending My Life. As you can tell from the title, the movie will focus on the life and career of comedian, actor, and filmmaker Albert Brooks.
I’ve been a fan of Brooks since I was a teen. I loved his comedy style and I’ve enjoyed many of the film and TV projects that he’s been a part of over the years. The guy just knows how to make people laugh. The title of the film is inspired by Brooks’ 1991 comedy Defending Your Life, which is one of my favorites that he’s made. If you’ve never watched that movie, you’ve got to see it!
The description of the doc reads: “Since the late 1960s, Albert Brooks has been a major force in American comedy with his smart, sometimes absurdist, and truly unique sense of humor. From stand-up, to acting, to writing and directing short films, to his seven, iconic, original motion pictures, including Modern Romance, Lost in America, Mother, and more, Brooks has paved the way for future generations and remains a comedic force in a league of his own.”
With testimonials from some of the brightest comedy talents and serious thinkers, as well as family and friends, “the documentary Albert Brooks: Defending My Life chronicles Brooks' very early work all the way to present day. In this deeply personal conversation, Reiner & Brooks explore the origins & evolution of Albert Brooks' career, the impetus for his creativity, and the impact he has had on the world of comedy.”
Some of the interviews include Sharon Stone, Larry David, James L. Brooks, Conan O'Brien, Sarah Silverman and Jonah Hill. The doc also features archival footage of Brooks' and the projects that he was a part of.
Rob Reiner is the same filmmaker who brought us films such as Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, This Is Spinal Tap and more. Albert Brooks: Defending My Life will premiere on Max starting on November 11th, 2023.
