Trailer for Doug Liman's Sci-Fi Thriller CHAOS WALKING with Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for director Doug Liman’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Chaos Walking, and we are actually finally going to be able to see this movie. The film stars Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland, and after hearing about all the issues the film had I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I actually kinda like what I’m seeing.

The film is an adaptation of Patrick Ness‘s young adult trilogy and the studio spent around $100 million on the ambitious project in hopes to launch a franchise. The post-apocalyptic movie is described as follows:

Todd Hewitt lives on the distant planet of New World—a new hope for humanity until struck by “The Noise,” a virus which inflicts immersive visions of ones’ every thought. The cacophony drives many mad until Todd makes a hidden, silent discovery: there is a girl named Viola, who may be the key to unlocking New World’s many-layered secrets. Together, the two unlikely companions are forced on a white-knuckle adventure into an unexplored planet – trying to escape and hide in an environment where all thought is heard, all movement seen –as they both discover the truth about the lives they left behind and the spectacular world they’ve learned to call home.

The film also stars Holland (Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Todd Hewlitt and Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Viola Eade, and co-stars Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Mayor Prentiss, Nick Jonas (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Davy Prentiss Jr., Demian Bichir (Alien: Covenant) as Ben, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter as Cillian, and David Oyelowo (Selma, Interstellar) as Aaron.

The reason why the film took so long to be released is because after Lionsgate executives took a look at the film, they deemed it “unreleasable.” That was after they pumped millions more into the production to do three weeks’ worth of reshoots to try and make the movie work. With how 2020 is going, I guess they felt that it wouldn’t hurt to release the film.

Chaos Walking is set to be released on January 21, 2021.
