Trailer For Elle Fanning's Hulu Series THE GIRL FROM PLAINVILLE Inspired By The True Texting Suicide Case

Hulu’s new limited series, The Girl From Plainville, will premiere with 3 episodes on March 29. Inspired by the infamous case of 17 year old Michelle Carter who encouraged her boyfriend Conrad Roy III to commit suicide via texts, the series looks really intense.

With Elle Fanning starring as Carter, it seems like we will be getting the story more from Carter’s perspective. Given that she did not testify at her own trial, and according to NBC news one of the conditions of her release is that she cannot profit off her story, it’s unclear how much will be factual as told by Carter and those involved and how much will be dramatized.

Other actors starring are Chloë Sevigny as Lynn Roy, Colton Ryan as Conrad “Coco” Roy III, Cara Buono as Gail Carter, Kai Lennox as David Carter, and Norbert Leo Butz as Conrad “Co” Roy II.

Given the extremely sensitive nature of suicide and mental illness, I really hope they tackle the topic with the respect it deserves. I always get concerned when I see shows like this or 13 Reasons Why that look like they could easily cross the line of talking about suicide to romanticizing suicide, especially in teens. Only time will tell, but if this court case interests you then this might be worth watching.
