Trailer For Emotional Crime Drama FLAG DAY Directed by and Starring Sean Penn and His Daughter Dylan Penn
A new trailer has been released for the upcoming emotional crime drama Flag Day, that was directed by Sean Penn. The film is based on a true story, with a screenplay by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, from the memoir by Jennifer Vogel, titled Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father’s Counterfeit Life.. Penn also stars in the film, alongside his daughter Dylan Penn from his marriage to ex-wife Robyn Wright, who Dylan is the spitting image of.
They are joined in the cast by Katheryn Winnick, Josh Brolin, Norbert Leo Butz, Dale Dickey, Eddie Marsan, Bailey Noble, and Penn’s son, Hopper Jack Penn.
Here’s the synopsis:
Jennifer Vogel’s father John was larger than life. As a child, Jennifer marveled at his magnetizing energy and ability to make life feel like a grand adventure. He taught her so much about love and joy, but he also happened to be the most notorious counterfeiter in US history. Based on a true story and directed by Sean Penn, Flag Day stars Penn and his real-life daughter Dylan Penn in an intimate family portrait about a young woman who struggles to rise above the wreckage of her past while reconciling the inescapable bond between a daughter and her father.
Like another of Penn’s beautifully directed films, Into the Wild, Flag Day also boasts a beautiful soundtrack with new music from Cat Power, Glen Hansard, and Eddie Vedder, featuring Olivia Vedder. This looks like another gut-wrenching performance from Penn, and it looks like his daughter is following in his footsteps. Check out the trailer below, and watch Flag Day in select theaters on August 20th.
