Trailer for INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER Takes the Franchise in a Terrifying New Direction

The first trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further has arrived, and it’s setting up a seriously creepy new direction for the long-running horror franchise.

This sixth chapter looks like it’s pushing beyond what we’ve seen before, blurring the line between the living world and the terrifying realm fans know all too well as the Further.

This latest installment, directed and co-written by Jacob Chase, continues the legacy built by the earlier films Insidious (2011), Insidious: Chapter 2, Insidious: Chapter 3, Insidious: The Last Key, and Insidious: The Red Door. As someone who’s followed this series from the start, this one feels like it’s doing something fresh in a way that’s got me pretty hyped.

The big hook this time is a shift in how the Further operates. Instead of characters simply traveling into that dark astral plane, the trailer teases something much worse. The Further isn’t staying contained anymore. It’s bleeding into our world.

The official synopsis spells it out: “A trio of stalkers infiltrate a quiet suburb and force a new family into the astral plane, where they uncover a terrifying truth: the Further is bleeding into the real world.”

At the center of the story is Gemma, played by Amelia Eve, a young mother raising her daughter in her childhood home.

What starts as a haunting quickly turns into something far more dangerous when she realizes she has a rare connection to the Further. But there’s a twist that raises the stakes in a big way. She doesn’t just visit that realm. She can bring things back with her.

Once that door opens, the entities on the other side don’t just lurk in the shadows anymore. They get access to our world, and the trailer makes it clear they plan to make the most of it.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Insidious movie without Lin Shaye returning as Elise Rainier. Even though the character met her fate way back in the original film, she’s remained a constant presence across the sequels and prequels. Fans know she always finds a way to show up when things get truly dire, and it looks like this film will be no different.

The cast also includes Sam Spruell, Brandon Perea, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers, with producing heavyweights like Jason Blum, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell helping steer the ship.

What stands out most from the trailer is the tone. It leans hard into that uneasy feeling that something is off, but now it’s happening in broad daylight and familiar spaces. The idea that the Further can spill into reality opens up a ton of possibilities for scares that hit closer to home.

Insidious: Out of the Further hits theaters on August 21, 2026.
