Trailer For Japan's Live-Action Adaptation of THE PROMISED NEVERLAND
I finally got around to watching the hit anime series The Promised Neverland and it ended up being as great as everyone says it is! While Amazon is developing a live-action series adaptation with the team behind Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Japan has made its own live-action film and today we have a new trailer to share with you for it.
The Promised Neverland manga was created by writer Kaiu Shirai and artist Posuka Demizu. The story follows a group of the smartest kids at a seemingly idyllic orphanage who “uncover its dark truth when they break a rule to never leave the orphanage grounds. Once the truth is discovered, they begin to plan an escape to save all of the children.”
Yūichirō Hirakawa (Erased, Rookies) is directing the film from a script written by Noriko Gotou, who previously worked with Hirakawa on the live-action Erased film. It looks like they’ve done a fine job bringing the story for The Promised Neverland to life.
19-year-old actress Minami Hamabe (Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day special's Menma, Saki, Hello World) is playing Emma. 13-year-old Jyo Kairi (My Little Monster, Erased), and 17-year-old Rihito Itagaki (Show By Rock!! stage musical) are playing Ray and Norman, respectively. Keiko Kitagawa (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Paradise Kiss) will play Isabella ("Mama"), while comedian Naomi Watanabe (KANNAsa-n!) will play Krone.
Viz Media publishes the manga digitally and in print in North America. MANGA Plus also publishes the manga digitally in English. Viz describes the story:
Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as “Mom,” all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn—what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing.
The film will be released in Japan on December 18th.
