Trailer For Johnny Depp's Violent Supernatural Revenge Thriller DAY DRINKER
Johnny Depp is back in revenge mode, and things get bloody, weird, and possibly supernatural in Lionsgate’s Day Drinker.
The first trailer for the supernatural revenge thriller gives Johnny Depp a gray-haired, scraggly-bearded new look as a mysterious man with a violent past and a serious score to settle.
Directed by Marc Webb, the film also stars Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz. Cline plays a bartender working aboard a private yacht when she crosses paths with Depp’s strange onboard guest.
Their encounter eventually pulls them into the orbit of a dangerous criminal figure played by Cruz, with unexpected connections between the three beginning to surface.
The trailer shows Depp’s character getting thrown to the ground and arrested, sporting eerie eyes and a thick accent as he casually warns: “I’ve made a living out of misbehavior. I see no tangible reason to stop now.”
The bigger mystery is exactly what Depp’s character is and how far into the supernatural Day Drinker intends to go. The trailer features gunfights, axe-wielding combat, plenty of violence, and hints that Cruz’s character may possess abilities that aren’t exactly normal.
Depp adds another detail to the story when his character says: “My story, perhaps it’s a tale of revenge, or perhaps something worse. What if all this is a ghost story? Or maybe I’m just another day drinker.”
The trailer is keeping the full story under wraps, which I appreciate. Whatever’s happening put Depp’s character on a path that’s going to leave plenty of bodies behind.
Webb, whose credits include The Amazing Spider-Man films, directed Day Drinker from a screenplay by Zach Dean.
Day Drinker also marks the fourth movie Depp and Cruz have made together. The two previously appeared in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express.
Before Day Drinker, Depp will appear in Ti West’s Ebenezer for Paramount, which opens November 13. Prior to these projects, Depp’s last studio film was 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Day Drinker opens in theaters March 26, 2027.
