Trailer For Natalie Portman's Astronaut Drama LUCY IN THE SKY
The first trailer has been released for Natalie Portman’s upcoming astronaut sci-fi drama called Lucy in the Sky. The film was previously titled Pale Blue Dot, and it comes from Legion and Fargo writer Noah Hawley. This is marks his feature film directorial debut.
The story will explore the theory that astronauts lose touch with reality after prolonged periods in space. Portman plays a successful female astronaut named Lucy Cola who, "after coming back home from a mission in space, starts to unravel when confronted by her seemingly perfect American dream life."
She ends up having an affair with a fellow astronaut (Jon Hamm), which as you might imagine starts spiraling out of control when he begins sleeping with an astronaut trainee. Dan Stevens stars as Lucy’s husband in the film. The movie is actually loosely based on astronaut Lisa Nowak's alleged criminal activities involving her romance with astronaut William Oefelein.
This looks like it going to be a very heavy, yet solid movie. Here’s the synopsis that was released:
An astronaut returns to Earth after a lengthy mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut. She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her family — a condition that can afflict those who spend a long time in space — and when her lover begins another affair with an astronaut trainee, the bottom drops out.
Lucy in the Sky also stars Zazie Beetz, Nick Offerman, Tig Notaro, Ellen Burstyn, Colman Domingo, and Joe Williamson.
Fox Searchlight will release the film later this year in 2019. Watch the trailer and let us know what you think!
