Trailer for Netflix's Buddy-Cop Comedy COFFEE & KAREEM with Ed Helms and Taraji P. Henson

The script for this Coffee & Kareem film project has been making the rounds in Hollywood for a few years. It initially landed on the Black List of best-unproduced screenplays in 2014, and in the end, Netflix was the studio that actually picked it up to develop it.

Netflix has released the first trailer for the film, which is a raunchy buddy-cop comedy set in Detroit. Ed Helms stars in the film as a police officer who ends up on an adventure of survival with a foul-mouthed kid played by Terrence Little Gardenhigh. It looks like they’ll make a fun comedic duo.

The movie isn’t going to be for everyone, but it looks like it could end up being a funny and entertaining flick. Here’s the synopsis:

Twelve-year-old Kareem Manning hires a criminal to scare his mom's new boyfriend — police officer James Coffee — but it backfires, forcing Coffee and Kareem to team up in order to save themselves from Detroit’s most ruthless drug kingpin.

The movie was directed by Michael Dowse (Stuber, Goon), and it also stars Taraji P. Henson, Betty Gilpin, RonReaco Lee, Andrew Bachelor, and David Alan Grier.

Coffee & Kareem arrives on Netflix on April 3, 2020.
