I have great admiration for the talented individuals in the world that can write and perform music. I love music, the art of music was instilled in me at a young age as I grew up with a dad who is a professional singer.

Netflix has a new documentary series coming out titled Song Exploder, which is inspired by the podcast of the same name. It features award-winning and popular musicians breaking down and discussing their music. They get into the nitty-gritty details of how they brought their songs to life.

Some of the artists that Song Exploder spotlights include Alicia Keys, Lin-Manuel Miranda, R.E.M. and Ty Dolla $ign. Here’s the first wave of artists and songs that will be featured in the series:

  • Alicia Keys – “3-Hour Drive” from the album ALICIA

  • Lin-Manuel Miranda – “Wait for It” from Hamilton

  • REM – “Losing My Religion” from the album Out of Time

  • Ty Dolla $ign – “LA” from the album FREE TC

The Song Exploder podcast was created by Hrishikesh Hirway and it launched in 2014. He’s an executive producer on the series and he had this to say in a statement:

“As a teenager, I used to sit in my room and listen to music while poring over the lyrics and liner notes and artwork until I could almost feel myself living in the world of the artist. It was the most incredible feeling, and with Song Exploder, I wanted to take that feeling and go even further. It’s been so exciting to turn it into a television show, because it’s provided a chance to immerse yourself in the music—and the ideas behind the music—in a deeper way than I ever imagined.”

Song Exploder premieres globally on October 2. Check out the trailer below.
