Trailer For Netflix's Inspiring Coming-of-Age Sailing Adventure Film TRUE SPIRIT

Netflix has released the first trailer for True Spirit, a coming-of-age drama sailing adventure film that tells the inspiring and harrowing real-life journey of 16-year-old Australian teenager Jessica Watson and how she became the world’s youngest person to sail the world solo.

I really like watching these kinds of inspiring movies and it looks like this one will take audiences on quite an intense adventure. I really know nothing about sailing, and I can’t help but be impressed and inspired by those who have these kinds of incredible skills and are dedicated to pushing themselves to the boundaries.

True Spirit stars Teagan Croft in the role of Jessica Watson and the film was directed by Sarah Spillane from a screenplay she co-wrote with Rebecca Banner and Cathy Randall. The film also stars Cliff Curtis, Bridget Webb, Vivien Turner, Stacy Clausen, Todd Lasance, with Josh Lawson and Anna Paquin.

In this story, “When the tenacious young sailor Jessica Watson sets out to be the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around the world, many expect her to fail. With the support of her sailing coach and mentor Ben Bryant (Curtis) and her parents (Lawson and Paquin), Jessica is determined to accomplish what was thought to be impossible, navigating some of the world’s most challenging stretches of ocean over the course of 210 days.”

Paquin said in an interview with EW: "Jessica Watson's story is an extraordinary one of perseverance in the face of obstacles and when all the odds are stacked against you. As a mother, I'm always really excited to find inspiring role models for my kids to look up to when they face challenges. And it being a young girl who managed to do this makes it even more special because so much ... has traditionally centered around boys and their adventures and achievements. I hope audiences of all ages and genders feel encouraged to pursue their dreams and goals no matter how out of reach they may seem."

The trailer highlights her courage as she faces several struggles while out on the sea, including giant storms and also trying to overcome her dyslexia when reading her map.

The film will be available on Netflix on February 3rd. The movie is based on Watson's book chronicling her harrowing journey.
