Trailer for Netflix's Korean Animated Film LOST IN STARLIGHT Explores a Love Story Across the Stars
Netflix has released the teaser trailer for Lost in Starlight, and this is the streaming giant’s first original Korean animated feature film. Set against a futuristic Seoul skyline and drifting all the way to Mars, the movie tells a heartfelt story on a massive cosmic stage.
Directed by Han Ji-won (The Summer), Lost in Starlight follows the romance between an astronaut named Nan-young (voiced by Kim Tae-ri) and a man named Jay (voiced by Hong Kyung).
The two meet just before Nan-young is scheduled to leave Earth for a long mission to Mars, and the spark that ignites between them is almost immediately threatened by the vastness of space and time.
This is a beautiful looking film, and the trailer It leans heavily into emotion rather than spectacle, spotlighting the couple’s intimate connection and the heartbreak that follows when Nan-young must leave Earth.
Netflix’s brief synopsis reads: “When an astronaut leaves Earth for Mars, the vast infinite space divides star-crossed lovers in this animated romance that crosses the cosmos.”
While Lost in Starlight is technically not anime (a term reserved for Japanese animation), you can see the style has similar aesthetic. From the character designs to the melancholic tone and richly detailed cityscapes, it will no doubt appeal to fans of both anime and contemporary sci-fi dramas.
