Trailer for NEW YEAR'S REV Sees Green Day Fans Take a Rock ‘n’ Roll Road Trip in Coming of Age Comedy

The first trailer has been released for New Year’s Rev, a wild new coming of age road trip comedy about friendship, music, and chasing big dreams with a little too much confidence.

The story follows three friends, played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust, who borrow a taxi and set out on a cross-country adventure under the hilarious but misguided belief that their band is opening for Green Day in Los Angeles. Along the way, they run into new faces, awkward encounters, and plenty of rock ‘n’ roll energy.

To make things even cooler, New Years Rev actually features Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool, and Mike Dirnt of Green Day, who not only perform in the movie but also helped develop it through Live Nation Productions.

Directed by Lee Kirk, the cast also includes Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey from The Office, as well as Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Keen Ruffalo, Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, and Sean Gunn.

The film arrives on the heels of Green Day’s massive headlining performance at Coachella 2025, and naturally, their music is baked into the DNA of the story. Talking about the spirit that inspired the movie, Armstrong explained:

“Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”

With a mix of heartfelt friendship, rock-fueled chaos, and the kind of road trip shenanigans that define youth, New Year’s Rev looks like a fun ride that both movie fans and Green Day diehards won’t want to miss.

The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12.
