Insane Trailer For OBSESSION Teases a Terrifying Horror Story About a Wish Gone Very Wrong

Focus Features has released the first full trailer for Obsession, a supernatural horror thriller that takes a familiar idea, wishing for love, and twists it into something genuinely disturbing.

The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and left a strong impression on audiences, and now horror fans will finally get their chance to see it when it hits U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026.

Early reactions have been extremely positive. The movie currently holds a 97% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 35 reviews, which is a strong start for this eerie new horror entry.

The story centers on Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a hopeless romantic who’s been quietly in love with his best friend Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette.

Their friendship is already close enough that honesty might have been the easier path. Instead, Bear stumbles across a strange novelty item called the “One Wish Willow” and makes a casual wish that Nikki would love him more than anything in the world.

As horror fans know, wishes rarely work out the way you hope.

The official synopsis reads: “After breaking the mysterious ‘One Wish Willow’ to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.”

The film was written and directed by Curry Barker, whose previous work includes Milk & Serial. Barker also handled editing duties on the project, shaping a story that escalates far beyond a simple supernatural romance gone wrong.

From what’s been shared about the film so far, the trailer only hints at the nightmare that unfolds once Bear’s wish starts taking effect.

Bear’s life changes fast once Nikki’s feelings shift in ways he never expected. What starts as a dream scenario quickly turns into something far more dangerous and unsettling, pushing the characters into a situation that spirals into supernatural chaos.

The cast also includes Cooper Tomlinson (Treasure Trackers) as Ian, Megan Lawless (The Hate U Give) as Sarah, and Andy Richter (Elf) as Carter.

Focus Features secured North American distribution rights in a $14 million deal following the film’s buzzworthy festival run. During its TIFF debut, Obsession finished as the runner-up for the People’s Choice Award. It later continued to draw strong attention with sold-out screenings at Fantastic Fest.

You can watch the trailer below and see just how quickly Bear’s dream starts turning into a nightmare. Obsession arrives in theaters on May 15, 2026.
