Trailer for Pixar's Short Film CARL'S DATE Teases a New Adventure with Carl and Doug
Pixar has a new animated short film titled Carl’s Date, which will be released with the upcoming film Elemental. The film continues the story of Carl and Doug from the 2009 film Up, and in this adventure, we see Carl preparing to go on a date with a woman who fancies him.
As you might imagine, Carl is going through a lot of emotions with this new event in his life. He’s not quite sure how to date anymore and he also doesn’t want to disappoint his dearly departed wife with the decision to star dating again.
I’ve already seen the short and it was a lot of fun reuniting with these two characters again after all these years and seeing how life is going for them.
The short was written and directed by Bob Peterson, who’s also the voice of Dug. The story shows how a dog’s love can change you for the better. It’s explained that “Dug emotionally supports Carl when he agrees to go on a date with a lady friend—which is a really big step for him.”
The director shared: “No one will ever replace Ellie for Carl. This is just friendship. This is just honoring her, Ellie saying ‘go have a new adventure’. And this really puts it to the test. Should he do this or not? It just seemed like the logical next step, and a closure for the story is that he’s finally committed to doing what Ellie wanted.”
The movie also pays homage to Ed Asner, who voices the character Carl Fredricksen. Enjoy the trailer.
