Trailer for POWER BALLAD Sees Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas Collide Over a Hit Song in John Carney's Music Comedy
The first trailer for Power Ballad has arrived, giving audiences a fun preview of the new music-driven comedy from John Carney, the filmmaker behind Sing Street and Once.
The film pairs Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas in a story about ambition, creative ownership, and the messy friendship that can form when music and ego collide.
The trailer introduces Rudd as Rick, a once-hopeful musician who’s now making a living as a wedding singer. His life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Danny, a fading boy-band star played by Jonas. The two musicians connect over a shared love of music and end up jamming together late into the night.
Things get complicated after Danny takes one of Rick’s songs and turns it into the hit that launches his career back into the spotlight.
Suddenly Rick finds himself watching someone else reap the rewards of the music he created, and he decides it’s time to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves. The move could cost him the friendships and relationships he values most.
Power Ballad “is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.”
Carney directs from a screenplay he wrote with Peter McDonald. The cast also includes McDonald, Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu, and Jack Reynor.
Power Ballad recently debuted at the Dublin Film Festival and will also screen at the upcoming SXSW Film Festival before heading to theaters.
The film hits cinemas on June 5, and it looks like Carney is delivering another music-centric story filled with heart, humor, and a few awkward notes along the way.
