Trailer For Ted Raimi's 87-Minute Single Take Thriller FAILURE!
The first trailer has been released for Ted Raimi’s bonkers new thriller titled Failure!, which was shot in a single, 87-minute take. I’ve been really curious about this movie and it looks like it’ll be an interesting and engaging flick.
Raimi takes on the role of James, “a man who has just one hour to choose between financial ruin or murder to protect his family.” The story follows James, “who has a big debt with the bank and is given one hour to choose between financial ruin or murder in order to protect his family. As the hour progresses he finds his home and phone invaded by multiple characters pulling him in different directions, gradually adding to his distress and his unravelling. But who is real and who isn’t?”
Raimi said in a statement, “Insanely excited to show British audiences this film — I really am — as I’m mostly known to my fans as ‘the horror guy’. I’m proud of that, but this movie is going to show a different side of me that the fans will really dig. Also, it’s at FrightFest, the biggest horror and thriller event in the UK — my kind of moviegoers!”
Raimi previously talked about the movie, saying: “I read it, and it was pretty radical. It was one take only, one shot. Yeah, isn’t that bananas? One shot, that’s the idea. So, it’s 87 pages. It is essentially a three-act play with no intermission.“
He went on to talk about shooting the film in a single take, saying: “The scenario was very enticing because there are no cuts; it’s an hour and a half and no cuts. And I felt capable of doing such a thing because I got my training in theater first… I knew that I was capable of things that some actors trained exclusively in film, who may be fantastic actors, would tire out after 10 or 20 minutes of nonstop acting. It might be challenging, and it doesn’t mean you’re a bad actor for not being able to do it, but it’s very much like the difference between doing sustained pushups and sustained walking.”
The film was directed by Alex Kahuam, and they really did shoot the movie in a single take. There’s no editing. When asked what would happen if a take was ruined, Raimi said: “Start over from page one, and it was quite a challenge, but it turned out great.”
The film also stars Merrick McCartha (Senior Year), Melissa Diaz (Ruthless), John Paul Medrano (Seven Days), Daniel Kuhlman (Voodoo MacBeth) and Noel Douglas Orput. The psychological thriller will make its World Premiere at FrightFest 2023.
