Trailer for the 1987 Sci-Fi Horror Film About a Possessed Spaceship, NIGHTFLYERS

Here’s another fun retro trailer and movie for you to watch for the 1987 sci-fi horror thriller Nightflyers. The movie is actually based on George R. R. Martin’s 1980 novella, and the story is set in 2093 and follows a group of scientists who begin a space voyage to find a mysterious alien creature.

As they journey deeper into space, they begin to experience strange and terrifying events, leading to a battle for survival against an unknown and deadly force. It turns out they are being victimized by the ship's malevolent possessed computer.

Martin co-wrote the screenplay with writer and producer Robert Jaffe, and it was directed by Robert Collector. It’s actually not a bad movie, but Martin was not happy about cutting certain plot elements in order to accommodate the film's small budget.

The film has since gained a cult following among fans of the genre and in 2018, a television series adaptation of the novella was released, though it deviated significantly from the original story.

While the movie was not a box office hit, Martin believes that the film saved his career, and that everything he has written since exists in large part because of it.
