Trailer For The 1987-Set Coming-Of-Age Film BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND
Epic Pictures has released a trailer for an upcoming indie coming-of-age film titled Before I Change My Mind. The story is set in 1987, and it focuses on young Robin, who gets into a complicated friendship with the school bully.
The synopsis explains that Robin is “a young non-binary person whose family moves to a small town in Alberta, where they navigate the challenges of fitting into a new environment by befriending Carter, the school bully.”
The film was directed by Trevor Anderson, who says: "When I was a teenager in Canada in the 1980s, I was often asked, 'Are you a boy or a girl?' I wish I could've let that question hang in the air unanswered, like Robin does in the film. It was a time when kids like me – or like our hero Robin – wouldn't have words like nonbinary or genderqueer to describe our genders. We'd know we were somehow different and that difference would be palpable to those around us, but because we didn't have language to describe it, we never talked about it – and we still had to survive middle school and answer more pressing questions, like: 'Who do I like?' 'Do they like me back?' 'What kind of person am I?' 'Where do I fit in?'"
The movie stars Vaughan Murrae as Robin, Dominic Lippa, Lacey Oake, Matthew Rankin, and Shannon Blanchet. Before I Change My Mind will be released in select US theaters on March 1st, 2024, then on VOD starting March 5th.
