Trailer For THE ASSISTANT Shines a Light on The Abuse, Sexual Harassment and Misconduct in Hollywood

The first trailer has been released for a new film titled The Assistant, which is a movie inspired by the abusive and toxic men who are in high positions in the entertainment business. It was no secret that Hollywood was filled with manipulative men who were taking advantage of women and behaving inappropriately for a very, very long time. But, until recently nothing was being done about it. Hollywood has changed a lot over the last couple of years as there’s been an effort to change things.

This new film, The Assistant, stars Julia Garner (Ozark, The Americans) as a recent college graduate who is looking to get her big break in Hollywood and ends up landing a job as an assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul (Matthew Macfadyen). While on the job she realizes there are some bad things going on. Here’s the synopsis:

The Assistant follows one day in the life of Jane (Julia Garner), a recent college graduate and aspiring film producer, who has recently landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul (Matthew McFayden). Her day is much like any other assistant’s – making coffee, changing the paper in the copy machine, ordering lunch, arranging travel, taking phone messages, onboarding a new hire. But as Jane follows her daily routine, she, and we, grow increasingly aware of the abuse that insidiously colors every aspect of her work day, an accumulation of degradations against which Jane decides to take a stand, only to discover the true depth of the system into which she has entered.

The movie is being directed by Kitty Green, and it also stars Makenzie Leigh, Kristine Froseth, Jon Orsini, and Noah Robbins.

The Assistant will screen at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in January and will hit theaters on January 31, 2020.
