Trailer for the Civil War Film FREE STATE OF JONES with Matthew McConaughey
The first trailer for director Gary Ross’ upcoming Civil War action drama, Free State of Jones, has been released. Ross is the same guy who wrote and directed The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, and Pleasantville.
The movie stars Matthew McConaughey as a defiant Southern farmer named Newt Knight, who rose up in armed rebellion against the Confederacy.
Banding together with other small farmers and local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. Knight continued his struggle into Reconstruction, distinguishing him as a compelling, if controversial, figure of defiance long beyond the War.
The movie also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights), Keri Russell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, House of Cards). Free State of Jones is set to hit theaters on May 13th, 2016
