Shudder has released a trailer for an upcoming documentary that will delve into the making of the classic 1973 horror film The Exorcist. The doc is titled Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist, and it includes an interview with director William Friedkin as he talks about his experience making the movie.

The film comes from filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe, who has previously made the following docs 78/52: Hitchcock's Shower Scene, Memory: The Origins of Alien, Doc of the Dead, and The People vs. George Lucas. All of these are great films worth watching, especially if you're a cinephile.

The film is "not just an in-depth musing on one of the most influential and widely acclaimed horror movies of all time, but also an enlightening and intimate portrait of one man's creative process." Here’s the synopsis:

A lyrical and spiritual cinematic essay on The Exorcist, Leap of Faith explores the uncharted depths of William Friedkin’s mind’s eye, the nuances of his filmmaking process, and the mysteries of faith and fate that have shaped his life and filmography.

I first saw The Exorcist when I was 11 or 12 years old with some friends and without the permission of my parents. That movie scared the living shit out of me and I had nightmares for weeks after I saw it! That was the horror film that kept on giving… for a long time.

I came to appreciate the film a lot more when I was older, but I’ll never forget the trauma that it inflicted on me when I was younger! I enjoy watching documentaries like this about the making of films, and this will tell us Friedkin’s experience making the film, which I’m looking forward to.

Leap of Faith will stream exclusively on Shudder on November 19th.
