Trailer for the Series Adaptation of the Video Game LIKE A DRAGON: YAKUZA
Prime Video has released the trailer for the upcoming Japanese series Like A Dragon: Yakuza, which is a live-action adaptation of the video game series Yakuza: Like a Dragon made by SEGA. This looks like it might actually end up being a cool series!
The story is set in the fictional town of Kamurocho, an the the story unfolds across two intersecting timelines—1995 and 2005.
This Japanese action drama series plunges into the dark underworld of the yakuza, exploring the universal theme of family not only through bloodline but also through ties between yakuza bosses and their underlings, orphans and their caretakers, as well as mentors and students.
These relationships are marked by deep affection at times, and by intense conflict at others, all intricately intertwined.
Originally released in 2005 by SEGA, “the ‘Yakuza’ game series was positioned as an entertaining game for adults, which found massive fanfare amongst its target audience.
“The series depicts the lives of fierce yet passionate gangsters and people living in a huge entertainment district, Kamurochō, a fictional district modeled after the violent Shinjuku ward's Kabukichō, that acts as the backdrop of the gameplay.
“Like a Dragon: Yakuza showcases modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, such as the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that games in the past have not been able to explore.”
The Japanese action thriller stars Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazuma Kiryu, Kento Kaku as Akira Nishikiyama, and Munetaka Aoki.
Like A Dragon: Yakuza is a new series created and written by Sean Crouch and Yugo Nakamura with episodes directed by filmmakers Masaharu Take and Kengo Takimoto.
Amazon debuts Like A Dragon: Yakuza series streaming on Prime Video starting October 24th, 2024.
