Trailer For The Mental Health Drama I AM RUTH Starring Kate Winslet and Her Daughter Mia Threapleton
The first trailer has been released for the upcoming drama I Am Ruth, which puts a focus on the endemic mental health crisis affecting youth. The movie stars Kate Winslet who also co-wrote the story with Dominic Savage. Winslet stars alongside her real-life daughter Mia Threapleton in the movie.
The film offers an “honest and authentic portrayal of a mother and daughter’s increasingly strained relationship. Winslet stars as Ruth, a loving and concerned mother who witnesses her teenage daughter Freya (Threapleton) retreating into herself as she becomes more and more consumed by the pressures of social media.”
As a father of three teen girls, I have seen first hand how the pressures of social media and online bullying effects kids. It can be super rough at times. This is definitely a film made for our time that tackles mental health issues that many of us might be able to relate to.
This movie is part of the “I Am” anthology series, which stars well-known female actors telling women-centered stories. The first round of films featured Vicky McClure, Samantha Morton and Gemma Chan. The second starred Suranne Jones, Letitia Wright and Lesley Manville. Winslet’s I Am Ruth is the first chapter of Season 3, with more chapters set to be announced soon.
